Madrid, 12th September, 2025. Allan Johnson, researcher at IMDEA Nanoscience and leader of the “Ultrafast Quantum Materials Science” group, has been awarded the Young Researcher Prize in Experimental Physics by the Royal Spanish Physics Society and the BBVA Foundation.
The jury highlighted his experimental work in ultrafast physics. His innovative contributions to attosecond pulse generation technology and the application of ultrafast science to the study of complex materials were recognised. His work has enabled the imaging of a light-induced phase transition through complex and challenging experiments with free-electron X-ray lasers. His contributions in other fields such as quantum optics and nonlinear optics were also highlighted. His leadership of research groups and his international profile were also valued.
Since 2007, the Royal Spanish Physics Society-BBVA Foundation Physics Awards have recognised creativity, effort and achievement in the field of physics with the aim of encouraging professionals working in research, secondary and university education, innovation, technology and dissemination.
